This study investigates the level of microplastics (MPs) in the freshwater of the Vaal River, South Africa. MPs were chemically identified by comparison with reference spectra in the SLOPP Library of Microplastics and KnowItAll polymer databases as high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, and polypropylene according to their Raman spectra.
