March 31, 2025 — Wiley, one of the world’s largest publishers and a global leader in research and learning, today announced the 2025 release of the Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs.
This database is a critical asset for forensic laboratories around the globe, facilitating rapid identification of illicit substances. Compiled from both legal and underground sources, it offers access to the latest novel psychoactive substances (NPS) like variants of fentanyl, xylazine, various opioids, synthetic cannabinoids, and more.
Annually updated, this GC-MS database provides access to 36,360 spectra, representing 27,500 unique chemical entities, along with detailed information and chemical structures. This year’s update introduces over 1,260 new spectra and over 780 unique compounds in major categories of interest.
“Forensic laboratories require up-to-date databases to stay ahead of emerging NPS trends. This resource remains crucial in the ongoing battle against drugs.” said Graeme Whitley, director, data science solutions at Wiley.
The Mass Spectra of Designer Drugs database is compatible with most major mass spectrometry data systems. Additionally, it is available as a KnowItAll subscription, integrating with Wiley's KnowItAll spectral analysis software, which features automated non-targeted analysis, including feature detection, automatic deconvolution, and library search in a single touch. It also includes tools for identifying novel compounds, such as drug classification models and a patented MS Adaptive Search tool that provides tremendous insight into structural possibilities when there is no exact match.
