Temporal trends in microplastic accumulation in placentas from pregnancies in Hawaiʻi

Raman spectroscopy was used to investigate the temporal exposures to plastic pollution in Hawaiʻi, in particular in the accumulation of microplastics in discarded placentas over the past 15 years. KnowItAll software combined with KnowItAll Raman spectral Library and the SLOPP/SLOPPs libraries were used to confirm the identity of the microplastics spectra.
