News: Wiley Adds Additional Data to Its KnowItAll Libraries including Minerals from Mars

July 19, 2024 –  Wiley announced further expansion of its KnowItAll Raman & IR Spectral Library collections, including a new IR database of minerals from Mars. The addition of new data to our collections underscores Wiley's continued commitment to providing analytical data to increase lab efficiency and throughput.  

Wiley's spectral libraries cover multiple spectral techniques across a wide range of applications including polymer, materials, environmental, forensics, toxicology, pharmaceutical, biotech, automotive, aerospace, food, cosmetics, and more. These databases are critical to analytical laboratory workflows for the interpretation, identification, verification, and classification of spectra. 

These databases, along with Wiley's comprehensive KnowItAll software to identify, analyze, and manage analytical data, offer an unparalleled solution for fast, reliable spectral analysis.

KnowItAll IR Spectral Library Collection 

  • A new database IR – Minerals [IMX], containing 262 new IR Martian minerals spectra has been added.  The spectra are from The Analytical Database of Martian Minerals (ADaMM). These spectra reinforce coverage of the IR – Sadtler Minerals & Clays – Wiley database. Learn more.  
  • 188 new ATR-IR spectra have been added to ATR-IR – Sadtler Controlled & Prescription Drugs 4 [DW4X] within the IR Spectral Library.   

KnowItAll Raman Spectral Library Collection 

  • 75 new Raman pharmaceutical excipients spectra have been added to the Raman – Materials [RMATX] database within the Raman Spectral Library.

About IR & Raman Spectral Analysis
Researchers use spectral search software along with spectral reference databases to identify unknown substances or verify the composition of materials. First, the IR or Raman spectrometer measures a substance and produces a spectrum, which is expressed as a graph showing a series of peaks that is specific to the sample material. That spectrum is then compared to a spectral database containing the measured spectra of known substances using spectral search software. By using algorithms, the spectroscopy software finds the best match between the measured unknown spectrum and the library of known spectra, and the results suggest the most likely identity of the substance.
